       Learn how to improve your professional speaking skills with this course for all skill levels. Steps to Becoming an Effective Presenter walks the learner through the various steps that, combined, help to create great presentations and more confident speakers. These sessions are presented by Dan Peterson, professional speaker of Encore Seminar Enterprises.

Objectives
Learners will be able to:

  • Begin and end on time.
  • Use an icebreaker/warm-up to open the speech
  • Capture the listener's attention with opening lines.
  • Use language that is inclusive, not gender specific and free of assumptions.
  • Effectively use voice inflection and movements to capture listener attention and emphasize key points.
  • Pace not too fast or too slow.
  • Speak in a clear voice.
  • Use effective eye contact with listeners.
  • Use facial expressions effectively.
  • Appear appropriate for the topic and the audience.
  • Not fidget with items in my pocket, my hair, pen, etc.
  • Not make apologies before, during or after the speech.
  • Get to know the audience.
  • Connect with the audience.
  • Move the audience to action.
  • Use proper grammar.
  • Not fill empty space with "um, so, and a, like, etc."
  • Answer and handle questions appropriately.
  • Answer the listener's concern, "What is in this for me?"
