Emerging Leaders AcademyIowa State University has a tradition of providing opportunities for faculty and staff to develop leadership skills. Past initiatives have ranged from individual programs within academic departments and operations units to university-wide support for internships to develop a rich and talented pool of leaders. Some of these initiatives were internally funded; others were supported from external sources. The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost is launching a new university-wide initiative to enhance leadership development for tenured faculty and P&S staff: The Emerging Leaders Academy. Our goal is to develop depth of leadership skills as well as to diversify the potential pool of leadership candidates. We want to build upon past successes and take advantage of best practices. Most importantly, we want to insure that Academy graduates receive continuing support, that the Academy is sustainable, and that the Academy can remain nimble and able to adapt to our future leadership needs. First Cohort SelectedThe first cohort will be composed of 20 individuals. As a result of participating in the program, ELA participants will analyze personal leadership style and formulate a plan for continued leadership development, increase use of effective leadership practices and innovative strategies, apply enhanced understanding of leadership, organization theory, and contextual factors to leadership practice, and establish a supportive network of colleagues. |
